World's Most Bizarre Recipes

Typically, words used to describe food include

--tasty
--delicious
--aromatic
--and mouth-watering

However, it's not often you hear these words associated with such weird and bizarre dishes as birds nest soup and fugu.

What is deemed inedible in one country might be amazing delicacies to the natives of another.

So, if you're the type that licks your lips hungrily at the idea of mannish water and stinky tofu, then this is the book for you.

Some of the most unusual and wildest recipes from around the world have been compiled here for fun and to satisfy those with a sense of adventure.

Just close your eyes and imaging your tongue swimming in a wild variety of flavors like you've never had before.

World Most Bizarre Recipes Chef Ban International Recipe Series Book 2 edition by Chef Ban Gary Franz Cookbooks Food Wine eBooks

After reading Chef Ban's "craziest" recipes, I was expecting even more shocking ingredients in this cookbook.

Some were equally shocking. Others -- like Scrapple and Lutefish -- were definitely ethnic fare and sometimes "acquired tastes." However, I found several recipes I'd try from this cookbook. (The rest were, like his World's Craziest Recipes (Chef Ban's International Recipe Series)... things that will never be on my dinner table.)

I had one problem with this book, and that's the lack of advice about finding some of the ingredients. For example, I might try the tofu recipe, if I had a clue where to find the main ingredient in the U.S. I'm guessing that it's available in ethnic grocery stores, but I'm not sure how difficult it is to find outside large cities with Asian specialty stores. So, I'd like a follow-up cookbook, along the lines of "bizarre recipe ingredients, from scratch" so I could make these foods myself, even without access to exotic grocery stores.

However, that's a small issue. Once again, this cookbook by Chef Ban is well-written and worth reading, if only for the cultural experience and understanding of world dining and traditions. (I think teachers could enjoy this book for an "international night" dinner for their students.)

Though this is a more Western-oriented book than the chef's "craziest" recipes book, it's just as entertaining. I'm glad I bought it.

Enjoyable and entertaining - the recipes in this book are definitely bizarre. This book may even be for those who do not regularly cook.
